چکیده

This qualitative study examines student musicians’ perceptions of their performance and development resulting from Body Mapping (BMG) technique. BMG is a somatic (mind-body) education technique designed to teach musicians skills in self-evaluation and change for performing with sensory-motor integrity. A qualitative study guided by an interpretive framework was used to collect data from undergraduate students and faculty at an American university. Data involved indepth interviews, self-reflective journals, and course materials. The findings show BMG played a multi-faceted role. The majority of the students reported a positive experience, stating that BMG enhanced their ability for musical expression (e.g. dynamics, phrasing, conveying emotional information), the ability to focus more easily on elements contributing to expressive outcomes, and facilitated greater personal confidence in being more musically expressive. The study discusses how IJEA Vol. 15 No. 7 http://www.ijea.org/v15n7/ 2 BMG instruction can be used for enhanced technical and performance outcomes. The research findings are relevant for musicians, educators, and health practitioners in the field of music medicine.

Perceived performance anxiety in advanced musicians specializing in different musical genres

Most research on musical performance anxiety has focused on musicians coming from a classical background, and performance anxiety experiences of musicians outside the western classical genre remain under-researched. The aim of this study was to investigate perceived performance anxiety experiences in undergraduate and professional musicians and to explore whether musical genre specialization (W...

Acute High-Intensity Exercise Reduces Performance Anxiety: A Pilot Study in Wind Musicians

Background. Musicians’ sympathetic arousal needed to deal with an extraordinary event (e.g., a demanding concert) can become a neurophysiological alteration known as Musical Performance Anxiety, an important health problem. Objectives. This study aimed to find whether high-intensity interval training (HIIT) might reduce the anxiety in musicians after acute training. Methods. Ten young wind in...

Measurements of iron concentrate stockpile weight, from laser mapping to investigation of effective parameters on surface density

Determination of stockpile weight and stockpile inventory are critical to any quarry or mining operation, whether it is required by accounting firms or used internally for the quarterly balance of production and sales. Generally, errors and problems originate from two factors. Volume of stockpile that is traditionally worked out from the mapping results has a low accuracy due to irregular shape...

Don't Just Play it, Grow it! : Breeding Sound Synthesis and Performance Mappings

This paper describes the use of evolutionary and artificial life techniques in sound design and the development of performance mapping to facilitate the real-time manipulation of such sounds through some input device controlled by the performer. A concrete example of such a system is described which allows musicians without detailed knowledge and experience of sound synthesis techniques to inte...

Influence of musculoskeletal dysfunction and pain on performance excellence

Playing-related musculoskeletal disorders (PRMD) and pain are a common phenomenon in professional musicians, with a prevalence of up to 80%. A majority of musicians are not aware that pain influences their performance excellence. Recent research data demonstrate that pain has the impact to change motor control strategies. Musicians with pain experience coordination impairments, muscle inhibitio...
